Caspian Pipeline Deal

ISTANBUL, Turkey -- A senior U.S. official said Wednesday that Georgia, Azerbaijan and oil companies have reached an agreement over the proposed route of an oil pipeline through Georgia.

Discussions over Georgia's conditions for the project had been delaying progress in plans to build the U.S.-supported pipeline, which would link Baku, the Azeri capital, to the Turkish Mediterranean port of Ceyhan.

Georgia reportedly was insisting it be compensated for land purchased for the pipeline. It also had security and environmental concerns.
