Nasdaq at New Record

NEW YORK -- The Nasdaq composite index soared to a new record Thursday, while blue-chip stocks once again lagged behind, pulled down by persistent worries that their earnings aren't growing fast enough to offset rising interest rates.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 55.53, or 0.5 percent, to 10,643.63.

The technology-laden Nasdaq rose 122.39, or 2.8 percent, to close at 4,485.63. It was the fourth new closing high in five sessions for the index.
