Mazheikiu Refining Up

VILNIUS, Lithuania -- Lithuanian oil refinery Mazheikiu Nafta said Tuesday it refined 441,825 metric tons of crude in January compared to 221,833 tons in the month before. Mazheikiu refined 398,937 tons of crude in January 1999.

The company also said it had imported 166,829 tons of crude through its Butinge terminal and exported 250,527 tons in January. Its Birzu pipeline unit transported 2.057 million tons of crude in the month.

Mazheikiu Nafta, the only oil refinery in the Baltic states, refined 4.56 million tons of crude in 1999 and 6.78 million tons in 1998.

U.S.-based oil group Williams owns a 33 percent stake and operates the concern, which includes a pipeline system and a terminal in addition to the refinery. The state retains a 59 percent stake in the company.
