Dangling Grenade

MOSCOW -- Unidentified attackers dangling a hand grenade from the roof of a nine-story apartment building damaged the apartment of a prominent local businessman in the Russian Far East early on Wednesday, Itar-Tass reported.

The agency quoted police in the city of Vladivostok as saying the attackers had apparently tied the grenade to a length of wire and tried to swing it into the apartment four floors below.

The grenade missed the window and exploded after hitting the building wall because the attackers, fearing the blast might hurt them too, lowered the wire from the other side of the roof and could not see their target, it said.
