Better Harvest Sought

MOSCOW -- Russia plans to harvest 75 million to 80 million metric tons of grain in 2000, which is 20 million to 25 million tons more than in 1999, Itar-Tass quoted Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Scherbak as saying.

"Eighty million tons is reachable for agroproducers this year," he said.

Russia collected only 54.7 million tons of grain last year because of the reduced cropping area and little use of mineral fertilizers, Scherbak said.
