Belarus Awaits Growth

MINSK, Belarus -- Belarus' government expects gross domestic product to increase by 60 percent to 80 percent over the next 10 years, government spokesman Ivan Znatkevich said Tuesday.

Znatkevich said the optimistic forecast was based on the government's program of development until 2010, which will be submitted to President Alexander Lukashenko for approval.

Belarus' GDP grew by 3 percent in 1999 after an 8 percent rise in 1998.
