Small Earthquake Shakes Dagestan

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4 to 4.5 shook the southern Russian region of Dagestan but no damage or casualties were reported, the Emergency Situations Ministry said Monday.

The quake struck on Sunday evening, said ministry spokesman Viktor Beltsov. Its epicenter was 80 kilometers) south of the Dagestani capital Makhachkala.

Another, stronger earthquake struck Dagestan earlier on Sunday, with an epicenter 100 kilometers southwest of Makhachkala. Several buildings were damaged but no injuries were reported.
