New Stadium for 2001

Lokomotiv Moscow’s new 30,000 capacity stadium, Russia’s first dedicated exclusively to soccer, will be opened in July 2001, a spokeswoman said Thursday.

The stadium, financed by the Railways Ministry, will resemble a traditional, compact English stadium and has already been nicknamed Anglia — Russian for England — by fans, Lyubov Shamikhina said.

The stadium will have roofed, two-tiered stands, 70 VIP boxes, one box for government officials, a large restaurant and a three-meter deep security ditch around the pitch. “A visitor can watch the game live sitting in the restaurant — we have never before had such comfort in our stadiums.”
