41 Die From Exposure in October

Forty-one people have died of hypothermia in Moscow since early October, officials said Friday.

The first death from exposure to cold was registered in the Russian capital on Oct. 10, the city's health department said. In all, 13 people have died that month, it said.

A cold wave in November, during which temperatures plunged to minus 16 C, claimed 28 more lives, the department said.

Hundreds of people freeze to death in Russia every year. Officials say most are homeless people or those who pass out on the streets after drinking alcohol.
