French Killed By Exhaust Fumes in Tbilisi

TBILISI, Georgia - A French national working for an international group in the Georgian capital was found dead in his apartment Wednesday, apparently felled by exhaust fumes from a power generator, police said.

Police identified the man as 32-year-old Jean Robier, an employee at the local office of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. They said he was watching television when he died.

Robier's body was discovered two days after two Iranian citizens were found dead in similar circumstances in their apartment. Many Tbilisi residents depend on portable generators to provide electricity when the local utility cuts off service each day for hours at a stretch.

Police spokeswoman Nino Kvachantiradze said that Robier's death was being regarded as an accident. The OSCE office declined to comment.
