Train Crossing Stopped

ALMATY, Kazakhstan — Kazakhstan said Wednesday that it would bar trains from Central Asian neighbor Tajikistan from crossing its territory to Russia, citing drug smuggling and illegal immigration problems.

State railway company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy said in a statement the measure would become effective as of Thursday and had been brought into force after a request from Moscow.

It said the trains were a fire hazard, dirty and often overloaded with goods.
