NTV: Yugoslavia’s Money in Russia?

Former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic is believed to have spirited huge amounts of money out of the country and some of it may be in Russian banks, NTV television’s web site said.

President Vojislav Kostunica’s new Yugoslav government has asked Britain to help track down the money, according to, which cited an unidentified source in the British Home Office.

The British Home Office on Wednesday referred questions to the British Foreign Office, which would not confirm the report. A spokesperson said, however, that "Milosovic was pretty adept at hiding money" and had squirreled away money in Cyprus and Lebanon, with recent reports showing the money was moving "eastward."

Last week, Reuters reported that some 30 people close to Milosevic, perhaps including his wife, had their bank accounts frozen in Switzerland.
