Gift of Trees for France

The Krasnoyarsk region will give the city of Paris more than 400 saplings to help replace those uprooted by a fierce storm last December, Interfax reported.

French parks officials traveled to Krasnoyarsk to prepare the saplings for air transportation, the cost of which will be borne by France, Interfax said.

The trees include maples, willows, lilacs, lindens, ash and birches.

The French storms uprooted millions of trees and battered many historical monuments throughout France. The gardens at the Palace of Versailles alone lost some 10,000 trees.
