4 Dead in Fire

A fire in a large wooden apartment building near St. Petersburg on Wednesday killed four people, injured three others and left scores homeless, a fire service spokesman said.

The blaze began at about 1:30 a.m. in the three-story building in the village of Morozova, about 45 kilometers east of St. Petersburg, said spokesman Valery Ardashev.

The structure, which contained 70 apartments, burned to the ground, he said. He could not say what had caused the fire.
