Worldly Love on Film

Get down and dirty international style Wednesday at the "Liki Lyubvi," or "Faces of Love," film festival. Wednesday's program features "Shabandama Elegy" (1999, Netherlands-Japan), the story of a love affair between a convict and a porn star. The film was directed by South African-born Ian Kerkhof, stars Dutch actor Thom Hoffman and was produced by a Japanese cast and crew. At 10 p.m. at the Mir movie theater, 11 Tsvetnoi Bulvar. Metro Tsvetnoi Bulvar. Tel. 924-7751. Live translation into Russian.

Society's Barriers

Or go a step further into the realm of the weird with "Fool for Love," Sam Shepard's play about a half-brother and sister whose love for one another crosses the lines of the socially acceptable - called krovosmesheniye in Russian, by the way. "Bezumiye Lyubvi" plays at 7 p.m. at the Pushkin Theater affiliate at 3/25 Sytinsky Pereulok. Metro Kropotkinskaya. Tel. 202-3752.

Drinking to Bach

Or, for a (literal) taste of the slightly more traditional, sip a hot beverage before a live audience at "The Coffee Cantata," a 40-minute production of Johann Sebastian Bach's comic opera, which involves 30 audience members having coffee with the singers. "Kofeinaya Kantata" plays at 7 p.m. at the Helikon Opera, 19 Bolshaya Nikitskaya. Metro Pushkinskaya. Tel. 291-1323.
