Weather Meeting Canceled by Storm

WASHINGTON -- Among the thousands of meetings and public hearings canceled by the surprise east-coast snowstorm Tuesday was one scheduled by the Senate to discuss, of all things, global warming.

At the hearing, sponsored by the federal Office of U.S. Global Change, two experts on climate and atmospheric science were scheduled to talk about how instruments on the ground and in satellites both have detected a global-warming trend.

"You've got this thing ready to go out the door, and of all things, the weather cancels it," Tony Socci of the Global Change Office said, laughing as he watched the snow accumulate. "This thing wasn't even predicted."
