Uranium Firm for Sale

ALMATY, Kazakhstan -- Kazakhstan is likely to sell a controlling stake in its state uranium producer Kazatomprom to strategic investors over the next year, Kazatomprom president Mukhtar Dzhakishev said Wednesday.

Plans to boost its world market share from the current 3 percent have been held back by the lack of cash in the vast former Soviet republic.

"I propose [selling] a controlling stake of 67 percent [in Kazatomprom], and 33 percent would remain," Dzhakishev told reporters.
