Stolen Furs Recovered

MOSCOW -- It took only a few days for police in Siberia to recover most of the $500,000 worth of furs stolen by thieves, officials said Friday.

The furs were brought to an airport warehouse in the Siberian city of Irkutsk on Jan. 13 by the Chart company. That same evening, thieves posing as Chart employees took the furs away, presenting warehouse keepers with forged documents. Altogether, the thieves stole the furs of 3,900 sables, 178 lynxes, 30,000 squirrels and 4,000 Russian minks.

Nadezhda Kurganskaya, the regional transport police spokeswoman, said agents had managed to recover 34 of the 36 stolen containers with furs.
