Motorola Man Moves

SAN FRANCISCO -- Advanced Micro Devices Inc., Intel Corp.'s main rival in PC microprocessors, has named Hector de J. Ruiz, Motorola Inc.'s top semiconductor executive, as president and chief operating officer.

AMD has been looking for a new president and chief operating officer since Atiq Raza abruptly resigned last July to pursue other interests. Raza was also believed to have been the heir-apparent to AMD's chairman and chief executive, W.J. "Jerry" Sanders III.

Before joining AMD, Ruiz, 54, was president of Motorola's semiconductor products sector, where he was responsible for leading its worldwide semiconductor operations, a $7.3 billion business with 33,000 employees.
