IMF to Discuss Taxes

MOSCOW -- The Tax Ministry and an International Monetary Fund mission will this week discuss the tax debts of Russia's largest firms, First Deputy Tax Minister Alexander Smirnov said Wednesday.

He told a news conference the agenda for Thursday and Friday meetings included payments by oil companies, Gazprom, Unified Energy Systems, debt restructuring, Tax Ministry efforts in 1999 and its forecasts for 2000.

IMF officials are in Moscow to review Russia's economic performance in the fourth quarter of 1999 and discuss the 2000 budget, tax programs and monetary and credit policy.
