Airline Cancels Flights

MOSCOW -- Russia's third largest carrier, Domodedovo Airlines, has been forced by unpaid government debts to cancel all its domestic and some Commonwealth of Independent States flights, Itar-Tass reported Thursday.

Domodedovo chief Alexander Akimov was quoted as saying the state-owned airline was unable to meet expenses due to the government's refusal to pay debts totaling more than 200 million rubles ($7.02 million).

Government officials were not immediately available for comment.

Routes affected by the debt problems included scheduled flights between Moscow and destinations such as Vladivostok, Khabarovsk, Tashkent and Baku.

It was not known what the fate of passengers scheduled to fly on the canceled flights was.
