Festival Delights


The Insula Magica Ensemble offers its "Legends from the Deep Past" on Friday evening, combining Pushkin's poetry with works by 17th-century composers. The concert is part of the Moskovskoye Deistvo festival of music running through Sept. 12 and takes place at 7 p.m. at the Patriarch's Palace in the Kremlin. For tickets, call 229-3739.


Author About Town


Award-winning British novelist Jane Rogers is in town this weekend to give two public readings. The first is aimed at English language students and teachers and will be held Friday at 5:30 p.m. in the British Council's English-language teaching center, located in the Library of Foreign Literature, 1 Nikoloyamskaya Ulitsa. Crichton on Celluloid


John McTiernan's latest film to hit Moscow cinemas is based on a Michael Crichton novel about 10th-century Central Asia with Antonio Banderas in the role of a poet.
