Pre-1917 Debt Settled

MOSCOW -- The issue of Russian debts owed to French investors prior to 1917 has been resolved, Interfax quoted Finance Minister Mikhail Kasyanov as saying Friday.

He was commenting on the demands made by French investors that a portion of the assets of Eurobank, a subsidiary of the Russian Central Bank, be frozen in order to pay them a larger amount than that provided for in an agreement between the Russian and French Cabinets.

Kasyanov said Russia "does not see the possibility or need to resume discussions on the issue," Interfax reported.
