Moldova Aid Approved

MOSCOW -- The European Union and the World Bank will lend Moldova 15 million euros ($15.58 million) and $40 million in 1999 so as to offset the country's budget deficit, Interfax quoted an official in the Moldovan Finance Ministry as saying Wednesday.

The former Soviet republic's Cabinet decided last week to increase the deficit by 423.2 million lei ($38.6 million) to 623.2 million lei after the national currency's devaluation, Interfax said.

International financial institutions have agreed to finance the additional expenses of the treasury, Interfax reported.
