Equipment Seized

VLADIVOSTOK, Far East -- Russian customs officials seized China-bound acoustic equipment that could have been used for military purposes, the Federal Security Service said Friday.

The acoustic devices, used to register noises at sea, were seized Aug. 31, a spokesman said.

The modules were headed to China's Harbin Engineering University. They had been sent by the regional office of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Interfax reported.
