Spinning in the Scene

Moscow's newest club, opening Saturday night, hopes to please techno fans by ushering in genuine dance music - and the scene to go with it. Gramofon provides an environment similar to Propaganda's Thursday nights - only bigger, better and with hopefully world-renown guest DJs. The new club will be housed in the basement of the Science and Technology Library at Kuznetsky Most. The interior, after knocking out a few unnecessary walls, could hold up to 1,100 people.

The "chill-out" bar area will feature ambience music, while the main room contains a lone concrete pedestal, from which the DJ will command the masses.

Fridays will spotlight resident DJs Sanches and Englishman Kevin Makky, while Saturdays are reserved for guests.

No cover for the first month, about $5 thereafter. Gramofon, 3 Pushechnaya, take the arch on the right. Tel. 924-5633. Metro Kuznetsky Most. Open 11 p.m. to 7 a.m., weekends only.
