Bosnia Troops to Stay

MOSCOW -- The Federation Council, parliament's upper house, approved a measure Friday to prolong Russia's peacekeeping mission in Bosnia until next summer, Itar-Tass said.

Russia has 1,400 troops serving under NATO command in a U.S.-controlled sector of Bosnia. The Russian contingent has been there since January 1996.

According to the measure, which President Boris Yeltsin submitted to lawmakers last week, Russian peacekeepers will stay in Bosnia until July 31, 2000.
