Musical Variety


Along with the Second Annual Jazz Festival, running in the Hermitage Gardens (Metro: Mayakovskaya) at 4:30 and 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, there are other curious musical sideshows running this weekend. At the Gorbushka market (Metro: Bagrationovskaya), Russian pop stars have begun serenading the public with free concerts from 12 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday to inspire casual listeners to invest in the many CDs and cassettes on sale in Moscow's biggest audio market.


A different kind of musical culture holds sway at the Kuskovo Estate Museum out in Ostankino, where soloists from the Bolshoi Theater will perform Baroque music and dances at 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The Kuskovo Estate is at 2 Ulitsa Yunosti. Tel. 375-5252. Metro: Ryazansky Prospekt.


For the Sport of It


Sport lovers have plenty to choose from, as the Spartak Cup, an international hockey tournament, ends with a play-off for third place at 1 p.m. Saturday and the final at 1 p.m. Sunday. Games will be played at the Sokolniki Ice Palace, 16 Sokolnichesky Val. Tel. 268-6958. Metro: Sokolniki.


The BMW Russian Golf Open is revving along outside town near Krasnogorsk at Le Meridien Moscow Country Club. The tournament is part of the PGA European Challenge Tour. Tee-off is at 7:30 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday. Call 926-5925 for directions.


Soccer fans should head to the derby clash between Dynamo and Lokomotiv at Dynamo Stadium Saturday at 5 p.m. Metro: Dynamo.
