Warrant Issued for Arrest of Bykov

Authorities on Friday issued a warrant for the arrest of Krasnoyarsk aluminum tsar Anatoly Bykov on charges of money laundering, Russian media reported.

The news was reported on a local television channel, and officials at the Krasnoyarsk Aluminum Plant, or KrAZ, where Bykov is head of the board of directors, confirmed to Interfax that the warrant was issued.

Neither the Prosecutor General's Office nor the local Krasnoyarsk prosecutors could confirm the report.

Bykov has been at an undisclosed location abroad since he was first charged for laundering money last spring.

An Interior Ministry commission has been investigating KrAZ and other businesses - local power plants and coal mines - in Bykov's sphere of interest.

Several Krasnoyarsk entrepreneurs and officials have been arrested as a result of the investigation.

The commission arrived in Krasnoyarsk in February at the request of Governor Alexander Lebed, who wanted its support in a fight against Bykov over the region's strategic coal mines.
