Sudan Appeals to UN

UNITED NATIONS -- Sudan has told the Security Council it is still waiting for a UN investigation of the U.S. bombing a year ago of a Khartoum pharmaceutical plant that Washington said was involved in producing chemical weapons.

The Al-Shifa factory was destroyed after the United States alleged it was connected to Saudi-born dissident Osama bin Laden, accused of the bombing of the U.S. embassies in Nairobi and Dar-es-Salaam last August in which more than 260 people were killed and thousands wounded.

Sudan's request came in a letter to the council president from Foreign Minister Mustafa Osman Ismail.
