Plans to Boost Alumina

PAVLODAR, Kazakhstan -- Kazakhstan's top alumina producer plans to raise output to 1.146 million metric tons in 1999 from 1.08 million tons last year, officials said Tuesday.

Almaz Ibragimov, director of AO Alyumini Kazakhstan, said that modernization of production facilities would allow the plant to boost output.

Alyumini Kazakhstan was created in 1996 by merging the Pavlodar aluminum plant with three bauxite mining sites and a local power plant.
