Mexico Acts on Imports

MOSCOW -- Mexico is imposing anti-dumping duties on hot-rolled steel imports from Russia and Ukraine, Interfax reported Tuesday.

The Mexican Trade Ministry has imposed a temporary duty of 20.7 percent on Russian hot-rolled steel and 46.6 percent on Ukrainian steel, because these products are delivered to the local market at reduced prices, foreign media said.

However, Russia has not yet received official documentation confirming this information, a source in the Trade Ministry was quoted by Interfax as saying.

Anti-dumping investigations were initiated in October 1998 by local metals companies that said increased imports of low-price hot-rolled steel from Russia and Ukraine were harming the Mexican metals industry, Interfax said.
