Hammering the Point

Nails are what Vitaly Solomonov has devoted his life to. Despite graduating from medical college, he stayed true to his real dream of making people beautiful and became a professional stylist five years ago. With competition fierce on the domestic beauty market, he was forced to look for a very unique niche.

"In Russia several years ago nobody could even imagine the existence of a special nail salon while in the United States, for example, you can find them everywhere," Solomonov, 30, says. "I think that the nail is the final touch in the total image. Take a look at the nails of people sitting in the metro. Sometimes you can see a very nice and beautiful person but if he or she has bad nails it can easily destroy the whole picture."

He believes that beautiful nails are able to do magic things.

"I had a couple of clients who were not very successful in love but nice nails achieved for them what hairstyle or makeup could not," he recalls.

Recently, Solomonov and his friends opened the first-ever nail salon in Russia. Solomonov hopes to use the salon, called the Art Studio, to apply cutting-edge nail technologies for the benefit of his Russian clients.

"Not everybody in this country knows that there are at least several dozen types of manicure and many of them can change your image completely," he says.

This Sunday, Solomonov will run the first Russian nail show.

"It is not going to be just a show," he says. "We want everybody to see how beautiful, sexy and shocking nails can be. At this show visitors cannot only see models with various types of nails but will also be able to do something for themselves."

The nail show happens Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Art Studio, 49 Bolshaya Nikitskaya. Tel 203-9713. Metro: Pushkinskaya.
