Gas Up 15% in July

MOSCOW -- Gasoline retail prices soared 15.2 percent in July, Interfax quoted the State Statistics Committee as saying Wednesday.

Gasoline prices rose 14.5 percent in June. The increase totaled 84.2 percent in the first seven months of the year, while overall inflation averaged 28 percent and consumer prices went up 26.1 percent, Interfax said.

Gasoline retail prices decreased 11.1 percent in the first seven months of 1998, it added.

Gasoline prices rose at total of 144.5 percent between Aug. 1, 1998, and July 31, 1999. Consumers paid 15.5 percent more for 76 octane gasoline and 15 percent more for higher 92 octane gasoline in July, Interfax said.
