Explosion in Manila

MANILA, Philippines -- Explosions and a fire rocked the Manila offices of the Philippines' National Bureau of Investigation on Friday, killing at least eight people and injuring 11, witnesses and police said.

"A big and thunderous blast" hit central Manila at 12:45 a.m. Thursday, bureau officer on duty Rodrigo Mapoy said.

Two smaller explosions and a fire followed, wrecking the bureau's investigation offices where suspects are questioned and where seized material like narcotics, arms and ammunition are stored, he said.

There was no word on what caused the initial explosion. Police said the other blasts might have come from stored arms and ammunition.
