Belgian Meat Discussed

BRUSSELS, Belgium -- European food safety experts were reported close to an agreement Wednesday that would allow Belgium to resume livestock and meat exports halted since Friday over new fears of contamination by the cancer-causing chemical dioxin.

On the second day of talks at European Union headquarters, a panel of veterinary experts from the 15 EU nations were expected to approve details of stringent tests Belgium will have to carry out on livestock and meat exports, EU officials said.
