Yeltsin May Go to Lakes

President Boris Yeltsin plans to go on vacation next Monday, probably at one of his favorite resorts in a lakeland region in northern Russia, his office said Tuesday.

Yeltsin tentatively plans to spend part of his vacation in Karelia, presidential spokesman Dmitry Yakushkin said on RTR television. The president usually divides his summer vacation between the Shuiskaya Chupa resort in Karelia, a republic adjacent to Finland renowned for its lakes and streams, and other state-run resorts.

Failing health has forced Yeltsin to take frequent breaks. He went on a brief vacation in May at the Black Sea resort of Sochi. But Yeltsin has been active recently with regular meetings and television appearances.
