Ukraine Plans Talks

MOSCOW -- Russian and Ukrainian presidents Boris Yeltsin and Leonid Kuchma will discuss bilateral economic relations, which are "now burdened with several large outstanding problems," when they hold an informal meeting in the Kremlin's Rus residence outside Moscow on Sunday.

The heavy debt incurred by Ukrainian consumers for supplies of Russian gas is one of such problems, Sergei Prikhodko, Yeltsin's deputy chief-of-staff, told journalists Friday.

The two presidents will also discuss "the situation in Europe in the aftermath of the military phase of the Kosovo crisis and ways to give a new impetus to the Russian-Ukrainian strategic partnership to solve problems jointly," he said.
