Market Drifts Down

MOSCOW -- Russian shares ended a touch off on very low volume Tuesday as the market continued to drift and investors awaited clues to provide direction, traders said.

"Without news it is almost impossible for the market to do anything. There are no dynamics and that means there is no money to be made," one Russian trader said. "Sooner or later something will happen to jump start the market."

The benchmark RTS1-Interfax share index finished down 1.16 percent at 125.18 on low turnover of about $9.0 million, while the broader Reuters Russian composite fell 2.66 percent to 461.20.

The dollar-denominated Moscow Times Index of 50 leading shares fell 1.95 percent to 94.61 on turnover of $8.91 million.
