Baltic Troops Join Forces in Kosovo

TALLINN, Estonia -- All three Baltic countries say they are preparing to send troops to Kosovo to take part in the peacekeeping operations.

Latvia announced Wednesday that it would send about 15 soldiers to Kosovo. Earlier, Lithuania's parliament approved a plan to send 35 troops. Estonia has said it would dispatch a 10-man force.

The small ex-Soviet Baltic republics say their soldiers will serve within battalions of NATO-member states.

The Baltic states expressed support for NATO's bombing campaign in Yugoslavia. Since breaking with Moscow in 1991, all three have made membership in NATO a top foreign policy goal.
