2 Charged for Spying

KARLSRUHE, Germany -- A German businessman and an engineer at a German defense company have been arrested on charges of spying for Russia, prosecutors said Thursday.

The businessman, identified only as Michael K., 39, allegedly had been selling technological know-how related to defense matters to Moscow since 1995. The information was provided by the engineer, the federal prosecutor's office said in a statement.

Michael K. was arrested Wednesday at the Hannover airport as he was about to fly to Moscow with military files, the statement said.

The engineer, identified as Peter S., 52, was arrested the same day at a Munich-area defense company, it said.
