Turks Pay $10,000 Fine

MOSCOW -- A Turkish fishing boat has headed home from a Russian port after its crew paid coast guard officials a $10,000 fine for poaching in the Black Sea, Itar-Tass reported. A Russian patrol ship detained the Ibrahim Reiz fishing vessel in April in waters near Novorossiisk. Border guard officials charged the crew of the Turkish boat with fishing in an area of the Black Sea that is temporarily off-limits.

The crew members initially protested the fine, saying they had not been poaching, but later agreed to pay, Itar-Tass reported. The ship left for Turkey on Sunday.
