TRAVEL TIPS: Staying In And Out Of Prague

Nord Way travel agency offers package deals to Prague that include hotel accommodation with breakfast, round-trip airfare, city excursions and insurance.

An intimate, four-star hotel with 26 rooms, the Na Kampe stands on Kampa Island near the Charles Bridge. Nestled inside a quiet city park, this 15th-century mansion has been recently renovated and features beautifully appointed rooms. A four-day weekend package at the Na Kampe runs to $569 per person. The Aeroflot flight arrives in Prague Friday at noon and departs Monday at 5p.m. Longer packages are available. Add around $50 for each additional day.

The three-star Mepro Hotel in Old Town is also small and cozy. A 12-minute walk from the Charles Bridge and the National Theater, Mepro also features a traditional restaurant with fine Czech cuisine. A four-day weekend package runs $520 per person, while a full week costs $685.

Vary Fashionable

Karlovy Vary is the most fashionable Czech resort. Its two springs are said to cure ulcers, disorders of the nervous system and obesity, but the town's active nightlife tends to keep away people with serious illnesses. Many Russian businessmen come here to relax and take advantage of the town's medicinal waters. Indeed, 90 percent of the tourists are Russian.

Fancy hotels such as the five-star Imperial start at about $120 per person per night for a double. A two-week package, including three meals a day, treatment at the baths, insurance and round-trip airfare from Moscow costs $2,076. The three-star Krivan Hotel is more affordable at $51 a night. The price includes three meals a day, an initial medical examination and a choice of treatments such as massages and baths. A two-week package costs $1,054.
