Tajik Talks to Resume

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan (Reuters) -- President Imomali Rakhmonov and opposition leader Said Abdullo Nuri has agreed to resume the work of the National Reconciliation Commission in a step aimed at salvaging a fragile peace process.

Lack of mutual confidence has often disrupted efforts by the secular government and the official Islamic United Tajik Opposition, or UTO, to restore stability after the 1992-97 civil war.

The latest crisis erupted last month when the UTO pulled out of the commission after its demands for a greater role in the power-sharing coalition were rejected by the government.
