Russia Extends Bans

MOSCOW -- Russia has banned the imports of meat and dairy products from Belgium, accusing it of failing to provide thorough information on possible dioxin contamination, an official said Wednesday.

The decision comes on top of a ban on the import and sale of Belgian-produced chicken and pork.

Russia's chief veterinary official, Vyacheslav Avilov, said Belgian authorities failed to give Moscow a detailed report on where and in what quantities dioxin-contaminated fodder had been used, and how much potentially tainted meat and fodder was shipped to Russia, Interfax reported.
