Romantsev Fined $400 By League

Oleg Romantsev, the Russia and Spartak Moscow coach, has been fined once again by the Russian Professional Soccer League, a league statement said Tuesday.

Romantsev, by far the worst offender in Russian soccer last year, was fined the equivalent of $400 for missing a news conference following a premier division match between Russian champions Spartak and Torpedo Moscow on Saturday.

Romantsev has been fined at least 10 times in the last 12 months.

Romantsev has said he never paid any of the fines that totaled more than $5,000 last season. The fines were always paid by the club.

England coach Kevin Keegan said Tuesday that his team had to win Saturday's European qualifier against Sweden at Wembley to have any chance of qualifying for the 2000 finals.

"We must win if we have got any aspirations or any ambitions at all to be at Euro 2000 by rights," Keegan said at a news conference at his team's training camp.

England is presently second in Group 5, five points behind Sweden. Keegan said that he did not expect his team to qualify by winning the group and probably faced the playoffs involving second-placed group finishers.
