Quake Roils Caucasus

BAKU, Azerbaijan -- A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7 damaged all 74 villages in a western region of Azerbaijan, officials said.

The quake hit Friday near the town of Agdash, about 220 kilometers west of the capital, Baku. The Azeri Interior Ministry initially said one person was killed, but later could not confirm the death.

Officials in Agdash said Saturday that all 74 towns and villages in the Agdash region suffered damage from the quake.

The quake also jolted Baku and the neighboring Caucasus nations of Armenia and Georgia.
