Livshits Is G-8 Envoy

MOSCOW -- President Boris Yeltsin has signed a decree appointing former Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Livshits as his envoy in charge of links with Group of Eight countries.

In this position Livshits will "promote the dramatic improvement of relations between the G-8 and Russia," sources in Yeltsin's entourage said.

Yeltsin has also made replacements in the Interdepartmental Commission for Russian participation in the Group of Eight leading industrial nations, making Livshits the commission's chairman and presidential envoy to the G-8. Livshits will also be working with the representatives of the G-7 leaders, replacing Andrei Shapovalyants.
