Float of Zloty Mooted

ST. GALLEN, Switzerland -- Poland's central bank governor said on Monday the bank was considering scrapping the trading band for its zloty currency to allow it to float freely.

Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz said a rate cut was unlikely in the short term and said the country's trade balance was worsening but not dramatically. Inflation was likely to stay within its target range this year, she said.

Asked whether Poland would abandon the zloty's trading band, she said this was not only for the central bank to decide but also for the government.
