Fleet Deals Ratified

MOSCOW -- The State Duma, the Russian parliament's lower house, on Friday ratified three agreements with Ukraine on the division of the coveted Black Sea Fleet, Itar-Tass reported.

The agreements were ratified by a vote of 260-19 with one abstention, Interfax said. Ukraine's parliament ratified the agreements in March.

The agreements, which took years to negotiate, leave Russia with about 460 vessels and Ukraine with 162.

The agreements allow Russia to keep its portion of the fleet and its infrastructure in the mainly ethnic Russian port of Sevastopol, on Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula, for at least 20 more years.
